Apple Watch Approved as Official Product by WSL: To Be Used in Sports Competitions!

The World Surfing League (WSL) accepted the Apple Watch, one of the wearable technologies of the United States-based software and technology giant Apple, as the official wearable device. With this decision announced by the league, the Apple Watch will be used as official and competitive equipment in a sports event for the first time. WSL Athletes will use the Apple Watch Series 8 and Watch Ultra models and the included WSL Surfer app during the 2023 Championship Round.

Athletes will connect to the WSL Scoring System in real time thanks to the application that will be pre-installed on the Apple Watch models that will be used in the Championship Round, and the application will provide the athletes with information about scores, wave priority and temperature.

Before the competition, each competitor will be allocated an Apple Watch, and each allocated watch will be running WSL’s official app. We would also like to emphasize that the application to be used by the competitors was tested by Championship Tour surfers who had won the previous two rounds before the competition.

Eric Jue, Apple’s Apple Watch Product Marketing Director, said the company was “excited” about WSL’s decision.

We’re excited that SL is using the Apple Watch for the Championship Tour, making it simple and easy for surfers to quickly glance at their wrists for instant access to vital information. This innovative solution leverages many of Apple Watch’s advanced features—bright high-resolution display, durability, water resistance, cellular connectivity, and a powerful platform for organizations to build custom apps—and the new WSL Surfer app delivers the ultimate competitive edge with the information they need while in the water. will empower surfers
